Question 1 is a commonsense reform to restore integrity, transparency, and public confidence in Maine’s elections. The measure will:

✅ Protect voter ID standards by requiring photo identification at the polls, helping prevent fraud and ensuring that every vote is legitimate.

✅ Streamline absentee voting by ending automatic absentee status and limiting ballot requests to in-person or written formats, reducing the risk of ballot harvesting and unauthorized requests.

✅ Ensure equal access to ballots by limiting drop boxes and removing prepaid postage, so all voters follow the same process and no region receives preferential treatment.

✅ Promote transparency at polling places by requiring clerks to announce voters’ names and addresses aloud, reinforcing accountability and public oversight.
